Barb, my heart goes out to you during this sad time. I just found out this week that Dennis passed. I don't know if you remember me, but I met you and Dennis at Paradise Michigan about 7 or 8 years ago.
It was breakfast in the only little cafe in town and I
had the incredible luck to meet you and Dennis. I will never forget when I said that I had just gotten back from a quick morning swim in Lake Superior, how Dale looked at me and said, "I don't do cold water."
I bought a book and he signed it for me. I got back to my hotel and immediately called my dad to tell him who I just met, knowing full well how affected he would be. I ordered a second signed book for my dad. Barb, he cherishes that book and had hopes of meeting Dale. Their paths came so close to crossing many times but it was not meant to be.
When I told him the news he choked up and said "he's with his shipmates now."
Dennis touched so many lives, I hope that gives you some peace and joy during this difficult time.
-Paradise Linda

My sympathy to Barb and the Dennis Hale family. Dennis became such a big part of shipwreck lore and his survival story will continue forever and he will always be remembered. I remember seeing and talking to him last in March during the Shipwreck symposium in Mich. He seemed very upbeat and told me was happy his book was selling well. He will be missed by our Bay Area Divers members. Ron

Dennis was such a great part of my life. He taught me so much and inspired me to be all I can be. Dennis will be forever in my heart. I remember him taking me on freighters as a tour and I remember all of the memories and laughter that I will Cherish. He was an amazing stepfather to my dad, John and to my aunt, Missy. Dennis always made me feel welcome and I could always count on him when I was down. You will be in my heart forever, and I will always remember that great smile and laugh that you had. He was an outstanding husband for my grandmother, Barb. I would do anything in this world to have him back. R.I.P Dennis, I will see you again my friend.

Dennis was my life. He showed me the utmost love and respect. He lifted me up in times of sorrow, made me laugh and feel much better about myself as a person. I was very shy and reserved, but he helped me come out of my shell. Now I will be totally lost without him. He'll have my love forever. He is gone but certainly not forgotten.

Condolences to Dennis Hale's family. I talked with Dennis by phone some years back. I was on the USCGC ACACIA when the Morrell sunk, in the same storm...we later went out and picked up some of his deceased shipmates from the lake. Glad he is now with his parents.

My sincere sympathies to Dennis' family. He was a neighbor of mine in the mid 1980's. He was a fellow I enjoyed knowing. I read his book recently and had hoped to visit him one day. In heaven I will. I Know that he is in good company now and at peace.

We will miss Dennis. He was the most captivating person we have ever met. His life experiences will live on forever in his best-selling book, SHIPWRECKED, which we are privileged to have a signed copy. We know he has joined his mates in that card game that he told us about. Goodbye friend, we will miss you.
Your friends,
Bob and Peg Ashba

It was an honor to share life and laughter with Dennis Hale. He has made a positive impression on my life and many, many others which will forever be held dear in my (our) heart (s). Most cherished is the devoted love he had for my mother, Barb Hale. For her, you brought forth eternal love, life to the fullest, endless laughter, and adventure.
Your presence will be dearly missed.
