GENEVA-Ronald A. Carter, 84, passed away June 21, 2022, in the Saybrook Landing Nursing Center following a long battle with kidney failure.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 19, 1938, the son of Jasper and Harriett (Callahan) Carter.
He was a 1956 graduate of Thomas Edison High School in Cleveland, Ohio and served his country in the US Coast Guard Reserves, which would later inspire the call to military service for two of his daughters.
On March 28, 1966, Ron married Mary Ann Levert and they later moved to the Jefferson, Ohio area where they raised their family and made many wonderful memories over their 56 years of marriage.
Ron loved to go places, whether that meant traveling or just driving around the countryside, usually transporting his children to school or other activities. He enjoyed bowling and took part in leagues throughout his life, joined by Mary Ann in the early years of their marriage. Over his lifetime he worked for the US Postal Service and General Tire, obtained his CDL and worked in security for a local boxing training camp. When at home, Ron loved watching Westerns, Mysteries and cheering on the Cleveland Browns and Indians.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann, his children: Rickey (Clarissa) Jackson, Larry Jackson, Ronald (Kim) Carter, Melvia Carter, Raymond (Dawn) Carter, Marcia (David) Gonzales, Rhonda (Jonathan) David and Marcus Carter; his grandchildren: Paige Clark, Kourtney (John) Norris, Micah Carter, Damian Gonzales, Jezzamae Carter, Tiahna Verschoor, Airalyn Verschoor and Carmella David; his sister Jacqueline Keenon and his brother Greg (Rosalind) Draft.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Howard Anderson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday July 1, 2022, at 12:00 at the Eagleville Bible Church, 1981 OH-Route 45, Rock Creek, Ohio; a memorial luncheon will immediately follow at the church. Burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday June 30, 2022 at the Fleming-Billman Funeral Home, 49 W. Jefferson Street, Jefferson from 5:00-7:00. Ron’s wife and children would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the staffs of the Saybrook Landing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Ashtabula Devita Dialysis Center for always treating him with such loving and compassionate care.
