Robert Lee Adkins Sr., 77, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.
He was born July 21, 1943 in Nitro, WV, the son of the late Thurmond & Reva (Slater) Adkins.
Bob proudly served his country in the US Army National Guard. He also earned his associate degree in mechanical engineering from Kent State University.
On December 31, 1992 he married Diana Urch-Weeks; his loving and devoted wife of the past 28 years.
Bob was a Class A mechanic and retired as a maintenance supervisor for Elkem Metals in Ashtabula. After Bob retired from Elkem, he became the owner and operator of Adkins Diversified.
His passion was Dirt Track Racing. He raced at Raceway 7, Erie Speedway and Sharon Speedway primarily. His car number was “09” and he raced from 1972 -1981. His racing days ended when one of his closest friends was killed during a race.
He was a lifetime member of the NRA and the Masonic Lodge.
Bob served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for North Kingsville. He was proud of his community and would do anything he could to lend a helping hand.
Bob’s greatest treasure was his family, he truly enjoyed spending time with each and every one of them.
Survivors include his wife, Diana; seven children: Robert (Stacey) Adkins Jr., Kathleen Adkins, Jason (Kim) Weeks; Jerry (Bobbi) Weeks, Mark (Brooke) Malinowski; Megan (Dr. Ameer) Kabour, and Kyle (Kayla) Adkins; one brother Thurmond “Bud” Adkins, Jr.; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Bart Adkins; a sister Betty Shears; and his great-granddaughter Annabella at birth.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 20, 2021, from 6:00-8:00PM, with a service at 8:00 p.m. at the Ashtabula Home of The Fleming & Billman Funeral Director and Crematory, 526 West Prospect Rd. With the Rev. Bud Adkins officiating.
