Michael Pestello
JEFFERSON-Michael J. Pestello, 60, passed away February 4, 2023, in the University Hospital following a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.
He was born in Mayfield Hts., Ohio on June 30, 1962, the son of Louis and Sandra (Pevec) Pestello.
Mike was a 1980 graduate of Jefferson High School; he completed his first two years of college at The Ohio State University and finished his education at Lakeland College.
On April 9, 1988, Mike married Tammy Johnston, whom he had been dating since her junior year of high school. His life was cut short because of cancer but the 34 years as a husband, dad, and grandpa has left his family with the most precious memories of the kindest, most loving, hardest working, fun-loving man they will ever know and love.
He spent 11 years at Lincoln Electric and as a certified electrician he started his own company, Preferred Electric which he owned and operated for over 30 years. He also had a 21 year career with First Energy, with many of those years spent at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant.
Mike worked hard, long days to provide for his family; but when he did take time off he knew how to have fun; he was an avid snowmobiler and was a member of the Trailriders Snowmobile Club, he enjoyed golfing, boating, and travel. He was an active dad volunteering at the girls activities and coaching their sports teams. He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and would always attend as many 80’s rock band concerts as he could in his lifetime. He was also a volunteer firefighter for over 10 years in Austinburg.
He is survived by his loving wife Tammy; his daughters that he absolutely adored, Kaitlin (Tony Delmonico) Pestello and Lindey (Shawn) Woodworth; his grandchildren: Preston, Emberlin and Mushu; his siblings: Christopher Pestello, Laurie (Allan) Polasko, and John (Linda) Garbutt; his mother-in-law Judy Johnston; his sister-in-law Shelly (Lon) Damon and brother-in-law Dino (Shannon) Johnston and his nephew Teddy Polasko and Maryella Polasko.
He was preceded in death by his father Louis; his mother and stepfather Sandra and John Garbutt; his sister-in-law Christine Pestello, and his father-in-law William Johnston.
In honor of Mike’s wishes, private family services will be held, and he will be laid to rest in East Trumbull Cemetery.
