Marjorie Hyland Obituary

Marjorie J. Hyland, age 100, a resident of Ashtabula and Jefferson since 1947, died early Tuesday morning at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.

She was born July 17, 1920 in Monroeville, the daughter of Arnold & Verena (Greenfelder) Dippel, living then in East Cleveland before relocating to Ashtabula County in 1947.  Marjorie was married to Eugene A. Hyland on November 26, 1942 in East Cleveland.  They owned and operated the Outdoor Army Navy Store in Ashtabula for many years.

Marjorie was a member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church in Jefferson, former member of the St. Joseph Church in Ashtabula and volunteered for Hospice of Ashtabula Co. (Western Reserve) for 32 years.  She enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Survivors include four sons, Daniel (Paul Hinson) Hyland of Smyrna, GA, Michael (Monica) Hyland of Hiram, Paul (Pat) Hyland of Ravenna & William (Kathy) Hyland of Ashtabula; six daughters, Peg (Bob) Peter of Dorset Twp., Mary Jo (Jack) Dugan of Warren, Pat Gilmore of Clemmons, NC, Cathy (Bruce) Moon of Mundelein, IL, Liz (Gary) Fox of Cartersville, GA & Jane (Romeo) Presutti of Columbus; 32 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Dippel in California & Alan Dippel in Texas and two sisters, Sr. Patricia Dippel of Cleveland & Carol Mould of Seattle, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene in 1987; brother, Donald Dippel and sisters, Marilyn Devlin & Elizabeth Goldfaden.

A private mass will be held at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church with the Rev. Fr. John Ettinger officiating.  The mass can be viewed after Thursday on St. Joseph Calasanctius Church Facebook page.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula.  A Celebration of Marjorie’s life will be announced at a later date.  The family requests no flowers please.  Memorial gifts may be directed to St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, OH  44047 or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, OH  44004.
