Jane Mead Obituary

Jane (Langworthy) Mead left her earthly home on Sunday, February 21st, 2021 and joined her late husband Donald Mead in their heavenly home.  She was born to Kathryn (Jones) and Barton Langworthy in New Castle, PA on October 9th, 1930. Preceded in death by her husband and parents, Jane is survived by her daughter's: Cindy (John) Deliman and Wendy (John) Gibbons; her grandchildren: Brian (Lisa) Gibbons, Laura Gibbons and Steven (Katie) Deliman; two sister-in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jane grew up on a farm in East Trumbull and lived most of her life in Ashtabula County.  She was a 1948 graduate of Rock Creek High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Kent State University in 1952.

When Jane saw Don Mead for the first time at the Austinburg Roller Rink around 1951, she said she heard a voice in her head say, "You're going to marry that boy".  Sure enough, Jane and Don were married in Rock Creek on June 7th, 1953 and spent most of their 66 years of married life in Jefferson,

In her teaching career Jane taught high school business classes at Rock Creek High School and Manchester (Summit County) High School before taking several years off to be home with their young daughters.  She returned to teaching business classes, mostly accounting, I room 14 at Jefferson Area High School from 1967 until her retirement in 1988.

Jane treasured spending time with her beloved grandchildren and loved to collect cookbooks, bake, read, watch veterinary TV shows, travel and camp.  She enjoyed music and often played Arthur Fiedler & the Boston Pops albums loud enough to be heard throughout the house and even outside.  A people person, Jane never met a stranger and would invariably strike up conversations with new people wherever she went.

Jane was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church for over fifty years and a charter member of the Jefferson Historical Society.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church (125 West Jefferson Street, Jefferson, Ohio 44047) or the Jefferson Historical Society (P.O. Box 574, Jefferson, Ohio 44047).
