Harold graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1953 and attended Kent State University. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years at the end of the Korean conflict, where he was stationed for eighteen months in Germany.
He and his wife, Emma Lou (Spurlock) Buck were married on February 2, 1958. They have resided in Saybrook since that time. They are the parents of two children: his son Kenneth and wife Lisa (Stater) Buck and his daughter Sheila Buck and her partner Michelle Burgess; Harold is also survived by his brother, Raymond and his wife Darlene (Peaspanen) Buck of Wadsworth, Ohio; and his sister Patricia Buck of Calabash, North Carolina; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his sisters: Shirley Kaiser and Lois Marlett.
Harold was an “A” mechanic at Elkem Metals for 42 years. He coached for the Saybrook Little League and was a member of the Harbor H.S. Athletic Boosters. He was a member of Saybrook United Methodist Church, The United Steel Workers, the Ashtabula Rod and Gun Club, the Sam Wharram Nature Club, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. An avid sports fan, he faithfully supported the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed skeet and trap shooting as well as hunting small game; particularly in Nebraska. He was an excellent gardener and liked raising flowers for their home and for his daughter’s campground.
He and his wife, Lou, traveled to all fifty states and several foreign countries. Favorite vacations were spending time in Maine at their daughter’s campground and at their son’s lake house on Lake Chatuge in North Carolina.
