Shirley J. (Long) Lautanen, age 91, W. 11th St., Ashtabula, died peacefully Friday morning at her residence under hospice care.
She was born March 31, 1926 in Conneaut, the daughter of Clifford C. (Ruth (Thayer) Pier and has been an Ashtabula Co. resident all of her life.
Mrs. Lautanen had previously attended the First Baptist Church in Jefferson. When her children were growing up she was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and was a helper with Brownies and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and flower gardening. Shirley was married to Lauri Lautanen on August 27, 1979 in Jefferson.
Survivors include five children, Marie Sands & David (Gretchen) Long, Jr. both of Austinburg Twp., Richard (Debbie) Long of Wadsworth, Robert Long & Helen Alexander, both of Ashtabula; three step-children, Charles (Sharon) Long of Austinburg Twp., June (Ray) Bailey of Cincinnati & Donna (Bob) Gully in Alabama, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; six siblings, Kenneth Pier of Kansas City, KS, Archie Pier in South Carolina, Clara Wright of Ashtabula, Josephine Miller of Jefferson, Allene Franbach in South Carolina & Iva Mohn in Conneaut.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, David Long, Sr.; her second husband, Lauri Lautanen; a son, John Long; a daughter, Karen Rasi; a step-daughter, Carolyn Rouru and siblings, Bessie Green and Harold & Robert Pier.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 12:00 PM at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & BIllman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with Pastor Ed Pickard of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
