Rex J. Knerr

Rex J. Knerr, 89 of Ashtabula died Saturday (July 20th) in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born June 7, 1930 in Ashtabula the son of Monroe and Helen (Rex) Knerr and has been a lifetime area resident.

He was a 1948 graduate of Ashtabula High School and was employed with Nelson Tree Service for 46 years as a tree trimmer and supervisor retiring in 1994.

He was an active member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. He enjoyed helping with communion at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home for many years. He was also a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Rex enjoyed trimming trees and especially being with his family.

Surviving him are his two daughters, Diane Mier of Columbus and Laura McCormick of Ashtabula; five grandchildren, Melinda, Amber, Matthew, Joshua and Janelle; many great grandchildren; a sister, Manette Nelson of North Kingsville and a son-in-law, Douglas Atwell of Ashtabula. He was preceded in death by his parents; His wife, Mary on Sept. 5, 2012; a son Robert Knerr in 2013, a daughter Cynthia Atwell. A brother, Monroe Knerr, Jr. a brother-in-law, John Nelson and a sister-in-law Julie Knerr.

A memorial service will be Friday, July 26th) at 6:30 Pm at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Father David Brindling officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home.
