James A. Newman, age 90, of Colony Ct., Geneva, passed away February 6, 2019 at Rae-Ann Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on January 28, 1929 in Euclid, the son of Fred & Mary (Bailey) Newman.
He worked for C. E. I. as a yard foreman for 42 years before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, snowmobiling and doing yard work.
He is survived by his wife Doris J. Newman of Geneva; children, James A. (Carolyn) Newman of Jefferson, Cheryl (Melvin) Robertson of Geneva; brother, Donald (Suzanne) Newman of Wilmington, OH; 3 grandchildren, Dezerae Newman of Jefferson, Amy (Virgil) Dodge of GOTL, Steffany (Don) Smith of Conneaut; 4 great grandchildren, Allie, Callie, Amelia & Clorice all of Conneaut. Doris has 3 daughters, Nancy J. (Alan) Baugh of St. Mary’s, GA, Carol A. Horan of Macedonia, Becky L. (Dan) Stancliff of St. Mary’s, GA, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Edythe M. (Irons) Newman in 1995; sister, Elizabeth Mitchell; brother, Richard “Dick” Newman; grandson, Michael Barrett; son-in-law, Edward Horan.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 4:00-6:00 P. M. at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva 44041. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to a charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. There will also be an hour visitation on Monday from 11:00-12:00 P. M. prior to the service.
Funeral service will be held Monday, February 11, 2019 at 12:00 P. M. at the Geneva Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph Whedbee of Seventh Day Adventist Church of Ashtabula officiating. Burial will be in Austin Cemetery.
