Hilda A. Luce. 90 formerly of Ashtabula died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2017) at the Graysfull Living Center in Fresno, CA. She was born October 7, 1926 in Ashtabula the daughter of Walter and Alice (Schweinfurth) Bedell and was an Ashtabula area resident most of her life.
She graduated from Edgewood High School in 1943 and from Huron Road Hospital in Cleveland in 1947 where she served in the Cadet Nurse Corps.
Following graduation she worked at Huron Road Hospital, Ashtabula General Hospital, offices of Drs Macaulay and Johnson and the Ashtabula Clinic retiring in 1986. After retirement she served as a volunteer at the Ashtabula County Medical Center and the Faith Food Pantry.
She was a member of the East Side Presbyterian Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and as a Deaconess. She enjoyed family and friends, card playing with neighbors, gardening, golfing and traveling, having visited all fifty states.
Surviving her is her husband, Dean E. Luce, whom she married June 19, 1948, a daughter, Bonnie L. Buus and husband Dan of Tollhouse, CA, six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;l and two sisters, Alice (Gary) Hewitt and Barbara (James) Gates. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Dennis E. Luce in 2004; brothers, William, Walter, and Robert Bedell and sisters, Shirley Bedell and Betty Blomquist.
Calling hours are at 10am,June 29, 2018 at the East Side Presbyterian Church, 3440 Edgewood Dr. Ashtabula, followed by a memorial service at 11am with Rev. Michelle Bartel officiating. Burial will be Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville following the service. Remembrances may be made to East Side Presbyterian Church in Hilda’s name.
