Gaylord Herbert Rodgers, age 84, of Lenox Township, died Thursday morning, August 22, 2019 at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.
He was born on October 24, 1934 in Jefferson, the son of Glenn Elno and Leola Belle (Goff) Rodgers. A 1952 graduate of Jefferson High School, Gaylord was a U.S. Army veteran. He began his career working for Eskelin Contractors, but also worked for Burns Construction and Tanner Plumbing and Heating before starting his own company—Rodgers Electric in 1978. He retired in 2005.
He married the former Sylvia G. Stacy on September 2, 1961 at the Geneva Bible Church. They began their life together in Jefferson until they moved to Lenox Township in 1967, where they raised their two sons. Sylvia preceded him in death on April 27, 2019, after 57 years of marriage.
Gaylord enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending time at his hunting cabin, “Holy Smoke,” in Tionesta, Pennsylvania. He was a past president and member of the Rock Creek Conservation Club where he enjoyed trap shooting.
Survivors include two sons, Craig (Candace) Rodgers of Ashtabula and David (Vickie) Rodgers of Melbourne, KY; four grandchildren, Emily McCormick, Ashley (Andrew) Schultz, David “D. J.” (Elizabeth) Rodgers, and Clinton (Anastasia) Rodgers; four great-grandchildren, Colton and Easton McCormick, Abigail Schultz, and Owen Rodgers; three sisters, Glenna Hamilton of Ashtabula, Beverly (Kenneth) Fertig of Jefferson, and Delores (Joseph) Miller of Jefferson; and one brother, Rodney Rodgers of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one granddaughter, Chelsea Rodgers in 1997; one sister, Constance Rodgers-Post; and one brother, Glenn Rodgers, Jr.
Funeral services will be held August 26, 2019 at 12:00 PM at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with the Rev. Dr. Mick Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow in Lenox Center Cemetery.
