David Wayne Park, age 67, Jefferson, died unexpectedly Friday at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation surrounded by his family.
He was born October 29, 1951 in Geneva, the son of Leslie W. & Beverly J. (Hunt) Park and has been an area resident all of his life other than living in Florida from 1973-76. David was a 1970 graduate of Jefferson Area High School. He was married to Helen M. Robison on October 28, 1972 in Austinburg. David retired from the State of Ohio Department of Transportation in 2015 and from the Ashtabula Co. Dept. of Environmental Services earlier this year. He was a member of the AFSCME Union. He formerly operated DWP Concrete and Park Livestock Hauling.
David was an active and proud Democrat. He was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church, taking part in multiple John’s Island Mission Trips. He always took an active part in 4-H with his children and grandchildren. He loved baseball, serving on the board and coaching in the Jefferson Area Little League, umpiring and a member of the NE Ohio Umpire’s Association and OHSAA. He was one of the charter organizers of the Haven’s Baseball Field Complex in Jefferson. He was a former member of the Jefferson Area Athletic Boosters. David was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeye and the Cleveland sport teams, especially the Indians. He loved riding his Harley and his greatest joy in life was being “Papa” to his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, three children, Jeremy D. (Linda Courtney) Park of Jefferson, Eric L. (Tara) Park of Rock Hill, SC & Allison M. (Abram) Bartunek of Ashtabula; five grandchildren, Emily, Aaron, Eli, Loralei & Brynn; his mother, Beverly J. Park of Jefferson and four siblings, Rebecca J. Reese of Jefferson, Brian L. Park of Austinburg Twp., Thomas A. (Kelly) Park of Jefferson & Jacolyn Park Smith of Augusta, GA. His father, Leslie in 2015 and a grandson, Beckett Park in 2013 preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson with the Rev. Douglas Winner officiating.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson.
