Barry D. Pinkney, age 77, Lenox Twp., died Saturday afternoon at University Hospital in Cleveland following complications after cancer surgery.
He was born November 10, 1941 in Ravenna, the son of Robert D. & Viola M. (Hillen) Pinkney and has resided in this area most of his life. Barry was a 1959 graduate of Pierpont High School and served with the U. S. Army in Korea during the Vietnam Era. Barry retired in 2007 from Combined Tactical Systems in Jamestown, PA.
He was in the Boy Scouts in his younger years. Barry enjoyed motorcycles, target shooting and owned three patents for law enforcement, pepper spray, flash bang grenades and rubber ball aerosol grenades. One of his greatest enjoyments was his beloved K-9, “Junior”.
Survivors include two children, Dwayne R. (Tina) Pinkney & Kristine D. (Shawn) Berry, both of Jefferson; his companion, April Splitstone of Jefferson and a half-sister, Lois Yeaton of Conway, NH. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marianne in 2003 and two brothers, Thomas & Paul Pinkney.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with Rev. Mick Gilliam, associate pastor of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lenox Center Cemetery where Neal Post #743 of the American Legion in North Kingsville will render military honors.
