Stephen Hancharik, age 79, Lenox-New Lyme Rd., New Lyme Twp., died Saturday afternoon in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.

He was born January 21, 1937 in Perryopolis, PA, the son of Paul & Mary (Lopotosky) Hancharik and has resided in this area since 2000, coming from Burton.  Mr. Hancharik was a veteran of the U. S. Army.  Stephen was married to Elaine K. Evans on August 8, 1964 in Fellsburg, PA.  He was a 36 year employee of Crawford Fitting Co. in Solon, retiring in 2000.

He was an active attendee of the N. Bloomfield United Methodist Church and was a member of the Orwell Post of the American Legion and the Western Reserve Dairy Goat Association.  He raised and showed dairy goats, he loved bowling, fishing, farming and enjoyed gardening and working outside.  Stephen was a John Deere tractor and Dodge truck enthusiast and loved attending truck and tractor pulls at the local fairs. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Indians fan.  He was very devoted to is wife and family.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, a daughter, Laura Lynne (Burt) Fay, two grandsons, Bradley D. & Brent S. Sodee, all of New Lyme Twp., two brothers, Joseph Hancharik of Dunbar, PA & Andrew (Carol) Hancharik of Kissimmee, FL, a sister, Margaret McCrory of Orlando, FL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Ann, Mary, Katherine, Helen, Paul, George & John.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at 11:00 A. M. at the North Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 8840 Park Dr., N. Bloomfield, OH  44450 with the Rev. Mark Thomas officiaiting.  American Legion Atwood Mauck Post #459 of Burton will offer military honors prior to the service.  No calling hours will be observed.  A shared luncheon will be held immediately following the service at the church.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, in care of Elaine Hancharik, 4590 Lenox-New Lyme Rd., Jefferson, OH  44047.
