Hattie Louise Blackwell, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at the Cleveland Clinic, Main Campus, Cleveland, Ohio.
She was born February 29, 1924, in Freeman, West Virginia, a daughter of Surviolet (Cheeke) Nelson and John Henry Harrell.
She is survived by her children, James who lives in Cleveland, Charles (Judy) and Gloria who live in Ashtabula, and Sylvia Evans who also lives in Cleveland; four nieces Patricia (David) Strain, Dorothy Mae (Robert) Dean, Debra Carter – all living in West Virginia, and Elizabeth Martin, who lives in New York; and nine grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
Hattie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James, who passed away on March 22, 1997; two brothers, Earnest and Sam; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Martin and Rosie Mae Cook; a daughter, Elizabeth Davis; and a grand-daughter, Jacqueline Sue James.
Hattie loved the Lord. She was a great cook and she loved making guests and strangers feel welcome. She loved her children and grandchildren. Her goal was to always keep the family together and she did this by preparing all the food for the holidays so family could enjoy themselves and to give them opportunity to stay connected. She was never a selfish person so she always wanted to help people in any kind of way that she could.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 24th at the Ashtabula Pentecostal Church of God, 2201 Cook Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, with Assistant Pastor Frank Loeffel and Pastor Robert Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery.
