Harold E. Orth, 86 of College St. Austinburg died Saturday (July 25th)  at the Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. He was born in Hardin County, Ohio the son Robert and Irene (Rodgers) Orth.

He had been employed with Reliance Electric in Ashtabula for 30 years until his retirement. He also had a mowing business and had managed Harpersfield Park Campgrounds. He was the Assistant Fire Chief for Austinburg Township for many years and also served on the Zoning Board. He was a member of the Austinburg United Church of Christ and was a trustee during the building of the parsonage.

Harold always had a big vegetable garden and he enjoyed camping and fishing and refinishing furniture. For ten years following his retirement he and his wife wintered in south Texas in their motor home.

Surviving him are his wife Alice A. (Ellsworth) Orth whom he married November 20, 1948; four children, Tom (Cheryl) Orth of Austinburg, Jeff (Cindy) Orth of Cortland, Ohio, Laura Orth Mullins of Geneva and Mike Orth of Austinburg; a daughter-in-law, Kathryn Orth of Ashtabula; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Dean (Nancy) Orth of Tenn. and Guy Orth of Austinburg and a sister, Dorothy Johnston of Saybrook. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Richard and James Orth and four siblings, Kenneth, Nelson, Maxine and Maurice.

A memorial service will be Monday (July 27th) at 3:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula.

Calling hours will be Monday from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Austinburg Township Fire Department, 2794 State Route #307, Austinburg, Ohio 44010 or to the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Committee.
