Edith Ileen Lake, 90, of Jefferson, died Monday, Feb. 20th, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on August 7, 1926, in Cannelton, West Virginia, the daughter of Charles and Edith (Baxter) Knox.

Ileen attended West Virginia University and then worked at the capital building in West Virginia. Following this, she moved to London, Ohio, where she was employed by McCord’s Manufacturing. Ileen met her husband of 59 years, Dr. William Lake, in 1957. They were married on August 16, 1958 while Dr. Lake was a veterinary medicine student at The Ohio State University in Columbus. Upon Dr. Lake’s graduation, he and Ileen moved to Jefferson in 1961 and opened a veterinary medicine practice at their home. Ileen served as Dr. Lake’s receptionist and veterinary assistant for 50 years, always greeting customers with her golden personality and warm heart.

Ileen adored her family and grandchildren more than anything else. She also enjoyed going for car rides as Dr. Lake’s passenger, visiting with friends, playing bridge, tending to her flowers, typing, and decorating, especially for Christmas.

Surviving are her husband, Dr. William Lake; nephews and nieces, John Paddock, Jeff Paddock, Pam (Paddock) Larson, and Debbie (Paddock) Phillips; children, Betsy (Terry) Heath and Jim (Tracy) Lake; eight grandchildren, Dr. Nathaniel (Brittney) Franley, Deidra (Christopher) Edison, Matthew (Cheyenne) Lake, Keenan (Allie) Franley, Tyler Lake, Kyle Lake, Audra Franley, and Kailey Lake; and a great-grandson, Kash Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jane (William) Paddock.

There will be no calling hours, but an open funeral service on Friday, Feb. 24th, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 89 E. Satin St., Jefferson with Pastor Fred Grimm officiating. A private burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
